I used a varied approach when working with clients. I believe the key component of any counseling experience is the development of a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship. My primary approach is cognitive-behavioral, as I believe that understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is critical in developing an approach to treatment. My approach also involves integrating Person-Centered Therapy; Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); and the Bio-psychosocial counseling approach of mind, body, and spirit in working with the total individual. Person-Centered Therapy facilitates self-discovery, self-acceptance, and personal growth. DBT emphasizes the acceptance of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings and includes teaching coping skills and strategies such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. Depending on your individual needs, I will utilize different methods of therapy. My belief is that therapy is not “one-size-fits-all” and I seek to tailor my approach to the needs of the individual or group with whom I am working.
